Guerilla Gardening

Our Random Art of Kindness flowers getting ready for distribution!

A happy Little Flower Being Abandoned in the Hood.

Little Free Library Goodness in Alberta Canada

One of my Abandoned ATC Cards in Alberta Canada.

I took the opportunity to introduce a couple of my art students to the concept of guerilla gardening.  These young artist's, age 11, 8, and 5 respectively took to the concept with gusto.  We painted and decorated the little terracotta pots, planted the bright marigolds, and set them free on the unsuspecting world!

My good friend from my college days took up the challenge to abandoned one of my ATC cards in a lovely little free library in Alberta, Canada.  How wonderfully thought out was the placement of my Random Art of Kindness, in a free library that gives back to the community.   So a very special thank-you to Rebecca, for taking upon the task of abandonment, and placing it in the most perfect spot ever.

RAK Nova Scotia

RAK number 15 on a beautiful covered bridge in Sacksville NB.

The lovely Sabrina over at Sabrina Scraps abandoned my Random Art of Kindness in New Brunswick for me in a stunningly spectacular location.  I've never been east, but I feel a connection, like a piece of my soul now has been to NB.  I hope this RAK has an amazing adventure.  It certainly is off to a great start.  A big thank-you to Sabrina for offering, then taking the time to help me fulfill part of my quest.  It is my goal to get the stories of more artist who abandon their art on this site.  If you are visiting and would like to take part let me know.

Cheers,
Heather

The Beginning

Mixed Media Collage

So I had this idea. It isn't a new idea by any means, but I am excited to share it with you. I have been blessed in my life with wonderful family, and friends. I have also been touched by the generosity and kindness of strangers. From the woman who bought me a cup of tea while I sat in a clinic waiting room sick with the flu with my baby also sick with the flu, to the generous soul who send me a package of goodies because she felt it was deserved, these people have touched my life profoundly. There have been many other acts of kindness in my life, each one unexpected and appreciated. These selfless acts have inspired me to pay-it-forward in a way that is meaningful to me, through my art. Here is my plan:

To give Random Art of Kindness to people.

What is Random Art of Kindness? I imagine it would look different to everyone, but to me a RAK is a small piece of art given for no particular reason other than to brighten someone's day.

My RAKs will be atc (2.5 by 3.5 inches) and post card sized (4 x 6 inches). They will be given out indiscriminately. They are free. They will be mailed. They will be left in random places where they might be chanced upon and taken.

It is my hope that maybe other people might like this idea, and share in it with me. Perhaps, people will send out their own RAK into the world to brighten someone's day.

Perhaps you know of someone who could use a little Random Art of Kindness? Let me know! I'll send one their way!

If you like my idea, and wish to share it, please grab my button to link back to here!
Go on, spread the love, give a RAK!!!
